Messe Basel (Messe and Congress Center Basel) is Switzerland's largest exhibition venue, located in central Basel and operated by MCH Group. It offers around 141,000 sqm of total space across five halls, of which roughly 83,000 sqm is suitable for multi-storey stands, and is internationally known for Art Basel, the leading contemporary art fair, and formerly Baselworld.
The venue
The five halls include a striking building opened in 2013 and designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, combining architectural distinction with flexible, high-capacity exhibition space. An Event Hall offers around 3,300 sqm of pillar-free space for up to 3,000 people, and 25 conference rooms support congresses. The unusually high proportion of space suitable for double-decker stands is a notable feature for exhibitors wanting large two-storey builds.

Messe Basel's signature Art Basel sets an exceptionally high standard for gallery-grade stand finish and lighting, while its trade fairs bring more conventional custom and modular builds. The venue's capacity for multi-storey stands invites ambitious architecture, but its technical rules govern structural sign-off, rigging and build-up. Given the finish standards, exhibitors confirm hall placement and design well in advance.
Getting there
The central Basel location gives strong tram and public-transport access, with the city positioned at the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France, and served by EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. This tri-border position makes Messe Basel readily accessible for an international audience.
