IAA Mobility is one of the world's leading mobility and automotive shows, held every two years in Munich. The 2027 edition runs 7-12 September 2027, with a press day on 6 September. Organised by the VDA, IAA Mobility uses a distinctive two-part format: a B2B Summit at the Messe München exhibition grounds and a public Open Space in Munich's city centre, together drawing several hundred thousand visitors and spanning carmakers, suppliers, tech companies and micro-mobility.
IAA Mobility's split format means two very different stand briefs. At the Messe München Summit, exhibitors build large trade-focused stands with vehicles, technology displays and meeting space in a conventional hall environment. In the city-centre Open Space, brands create public-facing activations in squares and streets, which involve outdoor structures, weatherproofing, permits and public-safety considerations quite unlike an exhibition hall. Many exhibitors run both simultaneously.
At the Summit, hall placement relative to a company's segment shapes footfall, while the Open Space locations carry their own logistics around a live public setting. Vehicles bring floor-load and access requirements, and the outdoor activations add structural and permitting complexity. Messe München's technical rules apply at the grounds, and city rules apply downtown. Given the dual build, exhibitors plan and confirm both elements well in advance.
For companies exhibiting at IAA Mobility, a builder experienced with Munich, Messe München and city-centre activations is a real advantage: coordinating a hall stand with a public outdoor build is specialist work, and local knowledge of the venue's logistics, city permitting and approved contractors reduces risk across one of the most complex mobility events in Europe.
